DROMOLAND CASTLE 5 STAR
New - Market - On - Fergus, Co Clare
The castle, a magnificent Renaissance structure built in the 16th century, was once the royal seat of the O'Brien clan. Refurbished and transformed into a luxury hotel in 1962, it retains priceless reminders of the Castle's historic past. Splendid woodcarvings and stone statuary, hand-carved panelling and fine antique furnishings surround guests. On the Castle's 375-acre estate, guests can hunt, fish, ride horseback, golf, play tennis and more.
Dining at Dromoland is always an occasion. It is also a culinary delight; the quality of the food and service is renowned the world over. There is something special for all tastes, a six-course dinner celebration, an afternoon tea in the Drawing Room or a light snack in the Country Club, all can be enjoyed in wonderfully grand but relaxed settings.
The Earl of Thomond Restaurant offers a relaxed but elegant dining experience. Located on the ground floor, dinner can be enjoyed in an ambience enhanced by the soft music of the Castle's resident harpist. Enjoy breakfast, light lunch and dinner in this wonderful setting. The bill of fare includes a large a la carte menu, a daily 'table d'hôte' menu and a selection of gastronomic menus. Executive Chef McCann's approach is one of simplicity founded on his classical training using the freshest locally sourced ingredients.
For guests preferring the privacy and comfort of their room or suite, the full complement of restaurant menus is offered. Room service is available from 7am to 11pm. A reduced night menu is available from 11pm to 7am.
In accordance with their reputation for fine cuisine, Dromoland's wine list has been meticulously selected to uphold this standard of excellence. Their Sommelier will be happy to discuss or advise as required. For the knowledgeable, or indeed the curious, their Wine Cellar is an Aladdin's Cave of interest and atmosphere, especially when toured by candlelight. Dromoland also offers a wide selection of vintage ports and cognacs to add the finishing touch to your meal.
Formerly the Castle library, the Cocktail Bar, at the top of the main Gallery, now provides the cosy setting for pleasures of a less literary nature. Open from 10.30am each morning, the bar is a restful haven for daytime refreshments, with tranquil lake views and a gently burning log fire. Candlelit by evening, Irish ballads provide the background for after-dinner drinks to complete your evening.
